The warmth of the lighting and the flowers and berries seem only to heighten the moroseness that one can sense in this piece. The expressions you've captured are so very tender and touching. What I like most about the composition of this work is the many contrasts you've used: her disturbed expression contrasts with his calm, almost indifferent one, the white flowers contrast with the black fruit, the light that seems almost divine in its warmth contrasts with the cool, grayness of their clothes and the boy's seemingly emaciated body.
